Political Parties Registration Law (2/2010)

A person who forms a political party must be a Burmese citizen, a foreign registration card holder, people who have been granted citizenship, or people who hold a temporary identity card. —Chapter II, Article 4 (M)


A political party will be disbanded if it can not contest an election in at least three constituencies. —Chapter III, Article 12 (A/1)


People's, Nationalities, Region and State Parliament Electoral Laws


People who hold foreign registration cards, people who have been granted citizenship, foreigners, or [Burmese] people who receive citizenship in a foreign country may not be elected. —Chapter V, Article 10 (M)

Political Parties Registration Law (2/2010)

A political party is one that believes in a “genuine disciplined multi-party democratic system” and one which the  Election Commission allows to be created in accord with this law to implement its  activities based on their political ideology. —Chapter I, Article 2/d

Technical Regulations for Political Party Registration (Order 1/2010)

After the approval [of the Election Commission] in accord with Article 5/a of this law, a political party can register within 30 days together with a registration fee of 300,000 kyat (US $300). —Chapter II, Article 7 (B)

If a political party is dissolved, either by the party's own initiative or based on a ruling by the Election Commission, all party property must be transferred to a government department or organization, as instructed by the government. —Chapter IV, Article 20 (A)

For each candidate seeking a seat in parliament, a political party may spend 10 million kyat ($10,000) in campaign expenditures for each candidate. The money may come from either party funds or a candidate's own funds. —Chapter IV, Article 21

Pyithu Hluttaw Electoral Law

The Election Commission will examine and announce the list of military representatives [in Parliament] submitted by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, in accord with the number as prescribed [by the Constitution].—Chapter VIII, Article 31

When the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces informs the Election Commission to replace any military representatives [in Parliament], the commission will announce the new list of representatives publicly. From the date of the announcement, the term of the replaced representatives will expire.—Chapter VIII, Article 33

Union Election Commission Law

The duties and responsibilities of the Union Election Commission are to supervise political parties, to allow sub-commissions to supervise political parties and to direct political parties in accordance with the law.—Chapter III, Article 8/k

Political Parties Registration Law

The Union Election Commission will supervise political parties in accord with existing electoral laws, regulations, announcements, orders and directions. The commission may assign the duty of supervising political parties to sub-commissions at the state, division, district or township level.—Chapter V, Article 23

If a member of a political party submits an issue involving a party's internal affairs to the commission, it may direct the party to conform to the commission's ruling within a prescribed time.—Chapter V, Article 24/b
