A leading political party in Mon State says a lack of polling stations will prevent some voters from casting their ballots on election day, Nov.7 .

An All Mon Regions Democracy Party (AMRDP) official said that there are not sufficient polling stations in Three Pagodas Pass, near to Thai border, where there are more than 8,000 residents eligible to vote, but the town has only six polling stations.

According to the election law, there should be a polling station for every 1,000 people, which would mean two more polling stations in Three Pagodas Pass.

The official said that some villages in Mon State also do not have enough polling stations.

Nai Ngwe Thein, the chairman of AMRDP, said that Jon Thor village in Kyaikmayaw Township in Mon State has 4,000 residents but only one polling station.

“We are worried that the people will not have a chance to vote. We encourage the people not to go back home unless they can vote,” Nai Ngwe Thein said.
